National Gathering of Graduate Students
The National Gathering of Graduate Students (NGGS) is a national annual gathering that brings together Indigenous graduate students doing research on Indigenous health and well-being. Hosted by one of the nine Network for Environments for Indigenous Health Research (NEIHRs), and in collaboration with the NEIHR National Coordinating Centre, the NGGS is held in a different territory each year.
The purpose of the NGGS is to create a nurturing environment that promotes a sense of community and provides support for Indigenous graduate students. It serves as a hub for honing skills, enhancing capacities, and facilitating an exchange of knowledge. Through collaborative learning with fellow graduate students, Elders, Indigenous educators, and like-minded scholars from coast-to-coast-to coast. The NGGS offers a platform that seamlessly combines cultural resonance with academic rigor. In 2023, the Wabanki-Labrador Indigenous Health Research Network (WLN) hosted NGGS in Unama’ki district, Mi’kma’ki (Cape Breton Island, NS).
Funding for this event is provided by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. NGGS 2025 will be hosted by the Indigenous Primary Health Care & Policy Research Network in Alberta (IPHCPR).
